Edge Sports takes the field at World Flag Series 2

This past weekend, Edge Sports was on the field for history. As a gear partner of the World Flag Series, Edge watched five of its partner athletes — Abbie Leyshon, Abbie Rustand, Lucie Vinot, Rylee Bolser, and Sarah Massucci — compete in Canada's first-ever professional flag football event, each of them running plays off an Edge Sports wrist coach.

The event, WFS2, took place September 19 at York Lions Stadium in Toronto. It brought some of the best female flag football athletes in the world to Canadian soil for the first time. And when those athletes needed their plays, they had Edge on their arm.

Edge athletes on the biggest stage in the sport

Abbie Leyshon, Abbie Rustand, Lucie Vinot, Rylee Bolser, and Sarah Massucci represent exactly the kind of athlete Edge builds for — women competing at the highest level of a fast-growing sport, who need gear that performs when it counts. At a professional event, there's no room for a wristband that slips, rotates, or fails to hold the sheet. These athletes trusted the Playmaker to keep their plays locked in through elite competition, and it delivered.

That's the whole point of being an official wrist coach partner. The gear an amateur buys off the shelf is the same gear the pros wear on the field. No special edition, no different build — the female-fit Playmaker a youth quarterback straps on for a Saturday tournament is built to the same standard the athletes wore in Toronto.

What is the World Flag Series?

The World Flag Series is the first professional flag football property built for the Olympic era of the sport. It brings together elite athletes from around the world for high-stakes competition and premium fan experiences — a real professional stage for a sport that, until recently, had none.

WFS launched its inaugural women's event in Tampa, Florida in July 2026. Toronto's WFS2 was the second, and it drew dozens of the world's best female athletes from more than ten countries: national team players, international champions, and some of the biggest names in the game.

The timing wasn't an accident. WFS brought professional flag football to Canada just weeks after both Canadian national teams qualified for flag football's Olympic debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Games, and after Canada's men took bronze at the IFAF World Championship. As WFS founder Philip Cutler put it, Canada is having a moment in flag football — and WFS built the stage for it.

Why it matters

Flag football is one of the fastest-growing sports on the planet. More than 20 million people play in over 100 countries, and the growth is sharpest among girls and women. Over 250 American colleges now offer women's flag programs with varsity athletes and real scholarship opportunities. In 2028, the sport makes its Olympic debut in Los Angeles.

What's been missing is the top of the pyramid — a professional level for athletes to aspire to and fans to follow. That's what the World Flag Series is building. For a young girl playing her first season, the pathway is now real: she can grow up playing flag, compete at higher levels, earn a college roster spot, represent her country at the Olympics, and watch professional athletes take the field while she does it.

That pathway is exactly why Edge exists. Edge builds for the female athlete specifically — gear designed for her, not shrunk from a men's version — because the girls and women driving this sport deserve equipment built for them. Being the official wrist coach partner of the World Flag Series puts Edge where it belongs: on the arm of the athletes defining what's next.

The same wrist coach, on your arm

The Playmaker the WFS athletes wore in Toronto is the same one available to any player, coach, or team. It holds three play sheets, closes with a magnet-and-velcro system that opens in one motion, it's tapered fit keeps it in place- all features that matter when sloppy wristbands can cost a possession.

For female athletes, the female-fit Playmaker is tapered for women's and girls' wrists, so it stays put through four quarters instead of rotating around the arm. It's the piece that makes an offense run without huddling, and it's built for the athletes actually wearing it.

Flag football is having its moment. Edge is proud to be on the field for it.
